FOR TEACHERS
Teacher guide
What the games are, how to run them, and how grading works.
The games
DNS Quest: Operation Wrong Address
Game 1. Guided introduction to DNS poisoning.
DNS Quest 2: Hex Strikes Back
Game 2. Investigation, attacker simulation and fix. About 30 to 35 minutes.
Suggested order
- Short lecture on what DNS is.
- Game 1 right after the lecture. It is deliberately guided.
- Game 2 a few days later as review and a harder follow-up. Students who need more support can use its Study mode first.
How grading works
- Each game ends with a case file showing the student’s name, results and date. Students screenshot it and turn it in.
- Both games are worth 30 points for finishing the case. Hint 1 is free; later hints and wrong answers cost points.
- Points lost can never be earned back, even if a student restarts.
- Extra credit comes from an optional Bonus Challenge, available after the case is closed.
- Game 2’s Study mode is not scored. Its report says NOT FOR GRADE.
Saves and privacy
- Progress is saved in the browser on that device (localStorage). Nothing is sent to a server.
- A new name, a different browser, a private window or cleared site data starts a fresh run. That is why the case file is the thing to collect, not the game state.
- The games make no network requests and load no outside scripts.
